Why Links?
When the web was young, a list of favorite links used to appear on almost everyone's personal web site. As search engines and directories improved, the lists of links disappeared. The result was a feedback mechanism favoring high profile sites, disfavoring small and new sites.
The day of the link is returning. The best web search technology depends on links for ranking results. Blogs are proliferating, many of them basing each entry on a link or two. This helps to break the feedback mechanism that heavily favored the status quo.
